Project Type: System Upgrade & Integration
Delivered by: KD Fisher
KD Fisher was engaged by Monash University to deliver a major upgrade of the ageing gas detection infrastructure across three key buildings. This complex project highlights KD Fisher’s expertise in designing, integrating, and commissioning advanced gas monitoring systems tailored to institutional environments.
Project Objectives:
- Replace outdated detectors with longer lifespan models to reduce ongoing maintenance.
- Consolidate multiple legacy systems into a single, unified control platform.
- Ensure individual addressability of each detector for precise alarm identification and isolation.
- Provide a High-Level Interface (HLI) to Monash’s BMS and Security systems for streamlined alarm management.
- Install CO₂ detectors in relevant rooms to replace inadequate O₂ depletion methods, ensuring faster and more accurate response.
Scope of Works:
KD Fisher managed the full lifecycle of the project, including:
- Design, supply, installation, commissioning, and documentation of all gas detection systems.
- Integration of carbon dioxide, oxygen depletion/enrichment, flammable gas, and toxic gas (CO) detectors.
- Replacement of all central control panels and reconnection of existing isolated panels as slave/mimic units.
- Compliance with AS/NZS 60079, AS 3000, and all relevant statutory and Monash University standards.
- Provision of shop drawings, site measurements, and as-built documentation in accordance with Monash protocols.
- Coordination with other trades and full responsibility for materials, labour, and commissioning.
Quality Assurance:
All equipment supplied by KD Fisher was 100% checked and compliant with Australian quality assurance standards.
Outcome:
The upgraded system now provides Monash University with a robust, scalable, more reliable and low-maintenance gas monitoring solution, fully integrated with their existing infrastructure. KD Fisher’s leadership in design, execution, and coordination ensured a seamless transition from legacy systems to a modern, intelligent platform.
This project further demonstrates KD Fisher’s capability to deliver high-performance, safety-critical solutions in complex institutional environments.
